Six Harmonies Pagoda
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province
The Six Harmonies Pagoda, "Liuhe Ta", is a 60m-high octagonal structure named after the six codes of Buddhism. Set atop a hill, it also served as a lighthouse for the Qiantang River. It was believed to have a magical power to stop the 20ft. tidal bore that would swamp Hangzhou every mid-September. There is a pleasant walk behind the pagoda, dotted with shrines and statues.
