China -> Lhasa -> Drepung Monastery
Drepung Monastery
Lhasa,
The Drepung Monastery was founded in the 15th century and was once the largest monastery in the world with over 10,000 monks in residence.Drepung, Sera, and Ganden Monasteries served as the three "pillars of the Tibetan state." After the efforts of the Cultural Revolution to wipe out monastic influence, only about 700 monks remain in the monastery today.
