North Tomb
Shenyang, Liaoning Province
Here in the North Tomb lies Abahai, the founder of the Qing dynasty, and his wife. The tomb was built in the mid-17th century and took about eight years to complete. The Luminous Tombm where Abahai is buried, lies at the end of an animal-lined path, similar to the Ming tombs. About five miles (8km) east of Shenyang is the East Tomb which is where Abahai's father, Nurhachi, lies. He was the Manchurian chieftain responsible for joining the northeastern Jurchen tribes into the army that invaded China.
