China -> Shanghai -> Oriental Pearl Tower
Oriental Pearl Tower    Shanghai, Shanghai Municipality

Shockingly pink and excessively lit up, the Oriental Pearl Tower is a piece of architecture that is unique to Shanghai. Vibrant in color, it resembles an inverted hypodermic syringe. The tripod building has 11 baubles in total but the three largest are the only ones in use. Standing at 468m tall, the Oriental Pearl Tower has become a symbol and beacon of China’s modern rebirth.

The ticketing system at the Oriental Pearl is convoluted. For ¥50, you can access the second bauble and outdoor viewing platform. For ¥70, you can see the second bauble as well as the Municipal Historical Museum; for ¥85, the lower two baubles and the Municipal Historical Museum. With ¥100, you can see all three baubles, and for ¥150, you can enjoy a revolving buffet on the second ball and with a visit to the other two balls as well.
