The origin of the Lion Grove Garden's comes from the limestone rocks from Taihu Lake that were arranged into the shapes of lions playing, sleeping, fighting, and roaring. The garden was built in the memory of Buddhist master Zhong Feng by one of his disciples, Tianru in 1342. The garden used to be attached to a monastery. Be careful, it is easy to get lost in this cave-filled rock garden.
