Most people visit Dandong because of its position as the largest border town in China to North Korea. Sitting across the Yalu River, one can view the soldiers and buildings on the other side. River cruises are available to get you within a few feet of the hermit country, and photos are permitted. You may also see the Yalu Jiang DuanQiao (Yalu River Bridge) which reaches halfway across the river from China until the point where the North Koreans disassembled it from their side. The bridge bears the battle scars from the Korean War. Next to it runs a railroad that runs from Beijing to Pyongyang.
